Other Info - born a long time ago, peyton lost his mother, beverly, to a storm. that would be what, in the end, made him fear the ocean. it would also be what made his father, jacob, so aggravated with him in the future, when he was forced to work on the docks and barely wanted to put a toe in the water. - born female, that was only another thing that him and his father would end up clashing over. It wasn't as if Peyton ever looked that much like a boy or a girl! They never filled out at the chest, and extra layers easily covered up where he did. It was just that... he never felt like a girl. Ever. So in time he finally decided that he wasn't one. He expected his father to be elated. The son he never had, right? It didn't quite go over like that. - after that, Peyton's father began to make him work on the docks. Grueling work, fitting of a 'boy', said his dad. Maybe this was true, but it was also dangerous works, unloading and loading the ships that came in, and working with sometimes volatile customers. To make it worse, the ocean was all around. The only comfort that Peyton had was that if he fell in, he likely wouldn't drown because it was so shallow or someone would fish him out. It's listening to his father talk about how he wants to get him onto one of those ships someday, though, and send him off. Completely serious.
